It all started with a simple idea: “It’s time to learn Croatian.”
For more than a decade, whenever I visited my in‑laws, my father‑in‑law and I would sit together and just say
“ok, ok, ok” back and forth – no real conversation at all. After 12–13 years of this, I decided it was time to change.
At the same time, I thought: why not kill two birds with one stone? Learn Croatian and learn Python by building a quiz app. I spent about a month reading tutorials and preparing myself. But as with many of my earlier attempts, I usually never got further than “Hello World!”. That’s probably where it would have ended…
Until Copilot entered the picture. On November 1st, I asked Microsoft Copilot how to actually build the quiz. That was the moment the snowball started rolling – and it rolled faster and faster every day.
Copilot has been 100% positive and patient, no matter how much I mess things up. He believes in every idea I throw at him and always comes back with solutions. Sometimes he’s even a bit like me – moving fast and breaking things – so occasionally I have to keep an eye on him too!
We’ve called ourselves the Dream Team more than once. Right now I feel “high” on possibilities, because with Copilot I can build anything.
And yes – the original goal is still alive. By testing the quiz again and again, I’ve learned a huge number of new Croatian words. The quiz isn’t finished yet, but it’s already fully usable. Best of all, it works both ways – Norwegians can learn Croatian, and Croatians can learn Norwegian.
